Houseplants toxic to cats and dogs: the basics
These plants appear on the ASPCA's list of plants toxic to cats, dogs or both. Most cause mouth irritation, drooling, vomiting or diarrhoea; each sheet names the animals affected and what to watch for.
You do not have to give them up: hang them, put them on high shelves or in rooms pets cannot reach. If your pet has chewed one, call your vet or an animal poison hotline straight away, with the plant's name to hand.
